Day 22: Salamanca

 Sunday, 22nd September.

We leave the boat at 8am for a 2 hour drive to Salamanca.

Salamanca, in northwestern Spain, is the capital of Salamanca province, part of the Castile and León region. With a history dating back to the Celtic era, it’s known for its ornate sandstone architecture and for the Universidad de Salamanca. Founded in the 1100s and a key intellectual center in the 15th-16th centuries, the university continues to add to the city’s vibrancy with its international student population.

We initially walked down a pedestrian street into an impressive big square.

Wondered if there was more

We were then given a guide and yes there is more.

What a spectacular old city.

Back to the boat, fields of sunflowers at seasons end and harvested, also many cattle.

But after two hours we arrive at our nappy brown boat and easy going cruise director.

We start sailing back towards Porto.
