Day 19: Coimbra, Porto

 Thursday 19th September.

On our way to see our boat, home for 7 days. In the coach 9ish, it is a 6 hour drive to Porto so a lunch time stop at Coimbra is planned.

Coimbra, a riverfront city in central Portugal and the country’s former capital, is home to a preserved medieval old town and the historic University of Coimbra. Built on the grounds of a former palace, the university is famed for its baroque library, the Biblioteca Joanina, and its 18th-century bell tower. In the city’s old town lies the 12th-century Romanesque cathedral Sé Velha.

The west coast of Portugal in wildly in love with Sardines.

Sardines born the same year as me. They will be tasty!!

And then there was the cork shops. I thought cork was for wine bottles and floor tiles. No, hand bags, shoes, purses anything you see made of leather.

Onward to Porto to board our new boat. Only it's second voyage!

Then a quick night cruise around Porto
