Day 17: Lisbon

 Tuesday 17th September.

Well last night we met our new group, all 116 of them.

That's everyone who will occupy the boat with us. All Aussies except 4 from UK. Except for about twenty of us the remainder had been travelling by coach through Spain. They divided us into two buses, the newbies and the Spanish group and took us to see the sights.

First stop Belem Tower.

Belém, pronounced [ˈtoʁɨ ðɨ βɨˈlɐ̃j]; literally: Bethlehem Tower), officially the Tower of Saint Vincent (Portuguese: Torre de São Vicente) is a 16th-century fortification located in Lisbon that served as a point of embarkation and disembarkation for Portuguese explorers and as a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon. This tower symbolizes Portugal's maritime and colonial power in early modern Europe.

Let us hear you pronounce it properly 😁 😁

Then onto Jerònimos Monastery.

Finally Monument to the Discoveries.
